Oak Side Table Build

Had some oak scraps from pallets, salvaged furniture and logs I’ve milled. What follows is a little about the process and a look at what I made from the scraps.

I started with selecting the wood for the case. These were glued up, cut to size and dovetailed together.

Then decided to go with dovetails to join the case.

Meant to say “pins” at the end =)

Case Glue up. I had already made the base by this point but didn’t capture any of the process on media. The base is made with mortise and tenon joinery. There is a small splay on the legs that is visible from the front view.

Made the drawers

Cutting drawer parts

I was originally going to make a drawer front by gluing up some oak strips to somewhat match the way the sides, bottom and top were created. I ended up using a single piece of white oak for the drawer face.

This board has so much going on!

The shelf is glued into a dado in the case. The front of the shelf is notched in the sides to match the look of the top and bottom on the case front.

The back is made from glued up pine scraps. The parts were jointed and planed.

SideTableBack

The inside of the back is painted a shade of blue and the pull (salvaged) is painted gold. This is how it turned out.
